Ahhh…. there is so much to think about when doing assignment. The colour of the font used, the placement and etc. Well, after listening to the comments and the rational behind it – it does sound reasonable. Well, falling back to theory, everything we do as teacher does affect the pupils’ understanding of the lesson. Maybe the holidays made me forget it. So far I’m still working on the assignment, hopefully it turns out to be good.
For this week’s topic – “Technology can support a vision but it cannot be the vision”, I feel that that this topic is a question that most teacher face when dealing with technology. I feel that this statement tell us that technology is a tool that we teacher can use to enhance our teaching but it is not what our aims are. Our aim in to educated pupils and to do so we use the help of technology. Like the example, that was given in class where the teacher uses technology to capture pupils’ interest.
When I was teaching as a part time teacher in a secondary school – I found that technology helps a lot in a class. I taught a Form 3 Science class. The school had a set of colourful transparencies that had notes and colourful pictures on it. As I am not good in drawing, I felt that those transparencies were a lifesaver. I just had to read up and add points that I felt were important to the transparencies. In class I felt that the pupils were interested in seeing what the pictures had to do with the days’ lesson. See what colourful transparencies can do – try imagining what colourful Power Point presentations can do?
I used the transparencies as a tool to attract pupils’ attention. However, being to dependant on it can have its side effects. I was too dependent on the transparencies that kept on using it for every lesson. Now, reflecting back I feel that if I were the pupil I would be bored by the fourth lesson. Well, I feel that if a teacher wants to integrated technology into the lesson, he or she has to vary the styles rather than sticking to just one.
Like me, sometimes, teacher can get to carry away with technology. And some might even use it just for the sake for using it. I feel that the latter case is much more common among teachers. Sometimes teachers just use the computer as they feel that just using it in class fulfils the need to integrated the use of technology in a lesson. And the just fall back to the old method of blackboard and chalk. But I feel that sometimes is hard to use technology always. With all the administration work in school – where do a teacher find the time to prepare a power point presentation? For sure a teacher has his or her personal life to live – I mean time to spend with his or her family – so where does a teacher find the time? Well I feel that it all comes with time and experience. I do agree that if used wisely, technology can bring a lot of benefits.

true, you cannot just depend on one technique. knowing you though, i think if you can cut down on your tv time, you will be able to make powerpoint presentations, create teaching aids etc AND have time to spend time with your family. hmm..shows how much time you spend watching tv! ahaks! have fun!!
