Hello…
Sorry… for this late reflection on PoEIT…
So this is what I have to say…
In my understanding, the day’s lesson was to remind us that changes in the learning styles are happening whether we like it or not. I feel that in Maktab we were drill with this. To me, I think – I can say this – that after 4 year in Maktab it is very clear to us that teaching and learning should focus on the students. The teachers’ focus should be on the students’ needs, learning styles, and etc.
So, what I think we lack is the ways a teacher can make hers/his teaching more of a student centred. I want to be familiar with the ways before I beginning my teaching years. Ahhh… this reminds me about the issue of an excellent teacher.
I feel that to be an excellent teacher is quite impossible. I don’t think everyone can do this. We are humans and you have to agree with me if I say that humans are not prefect. But, I feel that the issues here should be more on how do we – teachers to be, make positive changes in their students. Sometimes a small change can benefit a lot. I feel that the impact on the students is more important. Well, this issue can really make someone think. I wonder if I will be able to make positive changes in my future students’ lives.

The idea of engagement that was brought up is quite interesting.
After reading the article by Stephen Bowen – Engaged Learning: Are We All on The Same Page? (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa4115/is_200501/ai_n13634584/print)
I feel that the idea of getting students to engage in the learning process is one of the ways a teacher can make an impact on his or her pupils.
As mention, engagement is viewed in 4 different ways:
*Engagement with the learning process.(similar to active learning)
*Engagement with the object of study.(similair to experiential learning)
*Engagement with contexts of the subject of study.
*Engagement with human context.(similar to service learning)
*** I think I still to do some extra reading to have a better understading on this issue.
However, I find this extract from the text quite intersting:
“Perhaps the most important contribution of engagement is the focus it brings to the learner's personal relationship to learning. This emphasis is consistent with our recent appreciation that knowledge is more constructed than received, and that the primary agent of learning is the student. Thus, teaching and learning are different, and a focus on the learner is essential to the improvement of teaching. From this perspective, we can understand engagement as both the means to an end and an end in itself. Teachers strive to produce engagement as a means to learning. If a student is engaged in any of the ways discussed above, then learning of some kind would seem assured.”
I find that this extrcat conclueds everything in a very simple way.
Moving on to PoEIT
“if you KnowIT,
then use PoEIT,
to SEEIT”
to me…
KnowIT – means that the teacher has to know his/her students.
PoEIT – by knowing the students then the teacher can use the PoEIT strategies
SEEIT – using the strategies the teacher will be able to see the outcomes in the ways the students carry out the tasks given.
Well, this is my understading of the day’s lesson…
