But last week my lecturer had asked us to write an essay on what kind of teacher i would be?
So I'm posting it here as a reminder to myself....
Which kind of teacher do you feel you most resemble?
Well this is an interesting question to be asked at this point of the course. This is because I feel that this question is actually asking me how I view myself as a teacher-to-be. Well I think I’m a “Teacher B: The Involver”. Why do I say this? This is because I feel that when I plan a lesson, I (feel) try to get the pupils actively involve in the activities planned. And I do try (I think) to find appropriate and interesting activities that I can use in the classroom. However, I feel that to a certain extent I do need to have control of the classroom. I feel that if I don’t have control of the class then the pupils will be all over the classroom and I will be seen as a teacher who can’t control her classroom.
But after the lesson (last Friday) I learn that in a primary classroom this is bound to happen if I want the pupils to enjoy learning. Pupils should be given the freedom in their learning process. This will make learning more memorable for them.
Coming to the next question…
Which would you most like to be?
I think everyone wants to be Teacher C: The Enabler. It seems to be the IDEAL version of a teacher.“… she takes her lead from the students; seeing herself as someone whose job is to create the conditions that enable the students to learn for themselves.”
I guess every teacher wants to be this…But is it possible? I think it is possible but it comes with EXPERIENCES. I feel that this would be my goal but before I reach it, I would have to go through a lot of learning of my own.
Which of the factors that help effective learning do you think are already in you?
I guess I can say that I am an understanding person when it comes to children.
I also don’t mind trying out new ways that would help the pupils to enjoy learning.
I feel giving positive feedback is very necessary for pupils. This will have to motivate pupils. I remember that after a teacher (my BM teacher) praised me for doing a very good job in my BM test I felt that I was the smartest person in the class. This really boosted up my confident and I can say that after that incident I was more confident even though I did do mistakes later but I was interested. Therefore, I feel that this would be my main factor.
However, I feel that I still have a lot to build up on.
Which would you like to work on?
My sense of having control of a classroom would be the main factor i would want to work on. I feel that if this continues then I might turn out to be a very strict teacher which will make pupils scare of me. So I would have to be a bit more relaxed and let the pupils take control of their learning.
So this was what i wrote...
